Universities in Connecticut

Many of Connecticut's 50 colleges have been around for hundreds of years, giving them a great reputation. In fact, Connecticut colleges have produced some extraordinary intellectuals and famous individuals, including 5 US presidents, and 35 professional athletes.

Yale University

Tucked in the center of New Haven sits prestigious Yale University, which contributes significantly to the culture and atmosphere of the downtown area. Yale’s impact is prevalent in the numerous brownstone buildings and unique old architecture sprinkled through the city. Elm Street is constantly swarming with busy students scurrying to class or grabbing a bite to eat down Broadway. In addition, many of New Haven’s busy streets suddenly open up into the green campus parts of Yale.

Quinnipiac University

Located in Hamden, Connecticut, Quinnipiac University is a private university that is consistently ranked among the best universities by U.S News & World Report. Located in Middletown Connecticut, Wesleyan University is a private university of liberal arts and sciences, and offers undergraduate, graduate, and PhD programs. University of Connecticut

Located in Storrs, Connecticut, The University of Connecticut is among the top 20 public institutions in the nation and home of the championship winning UConn Huskies basketball team. Albertus Magnus College

University of New Haven

Located in West Haven, the University of New Haven is a private college originally founded in 1920 in cooperation with Northeastern University.  With an enrollment of 6,400 graduate and undergraduate students, UNH is recognized as a leader in experiential learning.  The University of New Haven offers 75 degree programs that range from engineering to business to forensic science.

Southern Connecticut State University

Located in the historic Westville Village section of New Haven, Southern Connecticut State University is a flourishing public university that hosts over 12,000 students. Southern has grown from a teachers college to a comprehensive university with 116 graduate and undergraduate programs.

Paier College of Art

Located in Hamden, Connecticut, the Paier College of Art has been educating students for over 60 years under the guidance of top professionals, with concentrations in fine art, graphic design, illustration, interior design and photography. Students can earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts or Associate in Fine Arts degrees, as well as diplomas and certificate awards. Gateway Community College

Gateway Community College, which has three campuses, two in New Haven and another in North Haven, was ranked by the New York Times as the top community college in Connecticut for incoming freshmen. The college offers certificate and degree programs, as well as online education programs. Besides academics, Gateway offers an exciting student life with opportunities in leadership development, honor societies and the Student Government Association.
